My girlfriend and I were frequent customers at Duluth's Superior St. Jimmy John's but I think last night was the last time we’ll be spending our money there. I've had two bad experiences there within the last month and that’s about enough for me.
A few weeks ago I placed an order for delivery. I received a call back about 10 minutes later from a man identifying himself as the manager. He sounded annoyed to be on the phone with me. He informed me that we were "way out of their delivery area” and that he “shouldn't have let the driver leave” but they already made my sandwich so he’d “make an exception, but just this one time." I left the conversation feeling as if I did something wrong - apparently it's the customer's job to know their delivery area, not their staffs’. Never mind that we'd ordered delivery from them three days in a row prior to this with no problems. (For the record, I apparently live SIX BLOCKS outside of their delivery area and a whopping three miles from the store! What a crappy delivery radius.)
Last night was the final straw for us. We walked in at 10:15 p.m. and were greeted with a loud, rude "hurry up. we're closing in one minute" from one of the kids behind the counter. Ok – 1.) all of their interior, exterior and window lights were on. 2.) their doors were open. 3.) their hours aren’t posted anywhere that we could see. 4.) there’s a person at the counter ordering food and 5.) it was 10:15 p.m. and what kind of business closes at 10:16!?
I still can’t figure out why he felt the need to greet us that way. Seriously. This guy work at a sandwich shop that makes 15 different sandwiches. Was he worried that we’d spend 20 minutes trying to figure out what we were going to order? Was he afraid that we were going to try and eat there? Or was he just afraid that we were going to want to hang out and chit chat with him?
On the bright side, the kid was in such a hurry or was so irritated that we were there that he screwed up my sandwich and had to make it over. It's just too bad his paycheck wasn't docked for the mistake.
Extremely Fast – The subs are delicious!!!!! They usually get to my house in under 15 minutes and are pretty reasonably priced. I go to their store mostly, but when I deliver I always make sure to tip the driver at least $3 because they always get here sooo fast.
